#814 - "Unbreakable Code" by Bajè Whitethorne, Sr.

This verse appears on the inside upper portion of the card, the lower portion is blank for a personal note or greeting.

Communication is extremely important in combat situations. In 1942, during World War II, the Marine Corp. approached the Navajo Tribal council to recruit Navajo men for a special assignment. With the approval of the Council, recruiters were sent to Window Rock, AZ., the capitol of the Navajo Nation. Initially, 29 men were recruited who became known as "Code Talkers". The warriors used two languages, Navajo in code and English for translation. Some 400 Navajo served as "Code Talkers" by the end of World War II. They traveled from the land of the Four Sacred Mountains to participate in campaigns in the South Pacific, including Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa and Iwo Jima. On July 20, 2001, President George W. Bush presented 21 Navajo Veterans with the highest military distinction of all, the Medal Of Honor.
